You can give another person legal authority to make decisions for you by executing a document called a power of attorney. These documents are used primarily to allow someone else to make financial and healthcare decisions on your behalf. A power of attorney can come in handy if the principal is unavailable to attend to financial matters, if it would be more convenient to have another person conduct your business, or if you become incapacitated. The person who appoints another to act on her behalf is called the principal, and the person who will act for the principal is called the agent. If principal or agent have any questions about the laws in Montana they should view the Montana Uniform Power of Attorney Act.
